Recommended Hammock Pergola Kit Mounting

Suppose you need a hammock stand. In that case, you can hang your hammock between any two solid points, including our Brim pergola, between the posts on the double beam side of any of our Big Kahuna, Sombrero, or Melbourne pergolas, with a beam length of 17’ (for single), 18’ or 19’ (for double or deluxe), adequately mounted posts (in ground), or trees large enough to safely support weight up to 450 pounds. For installation on a pergola, install the posts in the ground (rather than on a slab or footer) for the most secure connection. Here are a few recommendations:

  • The #1 pressure-treated southern yellow pine is the best pergola wood for hanging a hammock.
  • The best placement is to hang hammocks between the posts from the beam side only – not from the rafters.
  • Use heavy duty screw hooks (eye screws), tree straps, chains, or high test marine nylon rope for more considerable distances.
  • The ideal hanging distance from point to point is 13-15 feet apart for double hammocks, 12-14 feet apart for single hammocks; and about 4-5 feet tall.

WEIGHT LIMIT: The recommended weight limit for any Outer Banks Hammock is 450 pounds.

SHIPPING: All products are shipped FedEx or UPS Ground unless other arrangements are made via email or phone. Please allow 10-15 business days for your shipment to arrive.

Pergola Hammocks Handmade in the USA Since 1971

A commitment to quality and craftsmanship is at the forefront of the Outer Banks hammock product line. Continually striving to maintain the tradition, quality, and innovation that have been the hallmarks of Outer Banks Hammocks for 45 years, all rope and wood products are still handmade at their Wrightsville Beach shop. You will enjoy countless hours of relaxation from these quality built pergola hammocks.

Since 1971, all Outer Banks rope hammocks, porch swings and rockers have been entirely handmade at their Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina shop. Their hammock spreaders and swing and chair frames are constructed from the finest ash hardwoods available, and they use only the highest quality quarter-inch soft spun polyester rope – it won’t rot like cotton rope. They are carrying on the dying tradition of hammocks that are still made by hand on the coast of the Carolinas.

When paired with a Pergola Depot pergola, this hammock pergola kit combo will complete your backyard retreat for years of enjoyment and relaxation!

Pergola Hammock Care & Maintenance

Your rope hammock is made of soft spun polyester rope, meaning it won’t rot like cotton rope and should last 15-20 years if cared for properly. Dirt and surface mildew can accumulate on the rope. Here’s the best way to clean the rope (for white rope only).

  • Mix about a cup of bleach with a gallon of water and a couple of drops of dish soap.
  • Put the mixture into a pump-style sprayer, spray all over the rope (try to avoid the wood), and let it sit in the sun for about 20 minutes.
  • Spray off with a powerful garden hose and let dry in the sun.
  • Repeat if necessary.

Your hammock’s spreader bars are made of ash, one of the most durable hardwoods available. Each piece is coated (dipped) in a satin marine spar varnish (high gloss polyurethane varnish previously). With exposure to the sun, this varnish will wear off after 3-5 years, but this will not compromise the durability of the wood. If you wish to refinish the spreader bars, hand sand them with fine-grain sandpaper and brush on a high gloss polyurethane varnish.

Caution

  • Misuse of a hammock can cause serious injury.
  • Hammocks are not playground equipment and are not intended to swing high in the air. Always supervise children while they are using a hammock.
  • Small children can become entangled in hammocks.
