The Sombrero shares a solid design and quality construction with our signature Big Kahuna pergola kit, with half the rafters and top slats as the Big Kahuna, making for a high quality kit that captures the open feel of the outdoors at an even more affordable price point. Like the Big Kahuna, the Sombrero is offered in both freestanding and attached versions, with 90 standard sizes ranging from 8ร8 to 20ร20, and comes standard with 6ร6 posts, double 2ร8 beams, 2ร8 notched rafters, 2ร2 top slats and stainless steel hardware. The rafters are placed on 24 inch centers and the top slats on 12 inch centers, creating a more exposed feel than the Big Kahuna, but with more coverage than a lot of other pergolas on the market. The Sombrero is a great choice to help you create your outdoor space.
As with all of our kits, you choose the end cuts to customize it just the way you want it. This kit is available in pressure treated pine or cedar. We use only stainless steel hardware to prevent rotting, and offer optional galvanized steel post base mounting hardware. Every kit comes complete with all pre-cut, pre-drilled lumber that is pre-marked for easy assembly. It also includes a set of step-by-step instructions to guide you through the assembly process.
How to Determine Your Pergola Dimensions and Style
To choose your perfect pergola style, first determine your ideal dimensions based on the desired location of your pergola.
You can choose from a range of rafter and beam lengths. Your rafter and beam lengths will be reflected in your size choice โ for example, an 8ร10 pergola kit will have 8 foot rafters and 10 foot beams. Inner and Outer post-to-post dimensions will also be affected by your choice in size.

Standard size pergola kits ship from our facility in Florida generally within approximately 2-4 weeks from the day we receive cleared payment (please contact us for current shipping timeframes). This varies based on season, shipping location, and the size kit. Once your order leaves our production facility in Florida, delivery times are typically between 1-7 days from the date of shipment, depending upon your location. Please contact us for current shipping timeframes.
We custom build a pallet that goes under each kit, stack the pergola pieces on the pallet, then strap the pieces down and build crating around the outside to protect the lumber. The kit will come on the back of a semi truck and you will need to hand unload it piece by piece. For most shipments, the driver is not required to help unload it, but some will assist. The whole process takes about 20-30 minutes depending on the size kit youโve ordered. Just make sure there are 2-3 healthy adults present to unload the lumber for a standard size kit.
Youโll also need a tool to cut the strapping from the crate (scissors or knife) and possibly a screw gun with a Phillips bit to uncrate the lumber. Every kit is crated a little differently due to the different sizes of pergola kits available. Not all crates will need to have screws removed but those that do will usually have 4-6 screws to take out in order to remove the pergola pieces from the crate.
