The Big Kahuna 14ร18 pergola kit is built using quality lumber, including 6X6 posts, double 2X8 beams, 2X8 rafters, 2X6 angle braces, and 2X2 top slats. On every size of our Big Kahuna pergolas, we notch each post to a depth of 1-1/2 inches on each side in order to make a more secure connection between the beam and post. We also notch the rafters over the beams to take away the lateral motion usually found with cheaper pergolas that are un-notched.
